The Sani Sport Story
In early 2001, Steve Silver began his quest to get rid of the “stinky hockey equipment” smell that has plagued so many for years on end. After 18 months of research and development, he realized that most smells are typically a consequence of bacteria and viral build up. After trying different technologies to reduce this buildup, it was clear from the lab results that UV technology yielded the best results.
In the early days of Sani Sport, the primary focus was on Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). MRSA is a type of bacteria that is highly contagious and one that can cause serious consequences, such as rashes, swelling, fever and much more. In terms of how dangerous an MRSA infection can be, look no further than A Tiny Bug Ended My NFL Career—and Almost My Life.
As certain events occurred throughout the sports world, such as the mumps spreading throughout the NHL, we continued to test our technology in different laboratories. As the super-bugs continued to reek havoc on the sports world, Sani Sport continued to be tested and proven, time and time again.
As the NHL quickly adopted the technology, Steve began to get calls from the NFL, MLB and a few other professional sports leagues. The Equipment Managers in the professional leagues would quickly became the most valuable piece of marketing that Sani Sport had to offer. None of it was paid, it was simply word of mouth discussion that allowed Sani Sport to be placed in over 84% of NHL, NFL and CFL combined locker rooms.
As Sani Sport’s reputation grew in the sports world, the US Military began to show interest, thus Sani Defenx was created. Sani Defenx is our law enforcement and military division.
